The Supreme Court has once again declined to stop Trump from bending the rule of law to its breaking point. Congress created independent agencies like the FTC to insulate them from political influence—including the firing of commissioners who don’t do as the president demands.

I think this is probably right on the law. But I also think the states should pass these laws anyway.

I don’t have a lot of sympathy for very wealthy, privileged people who are capitulating to fascism and/or staying silent because they’re “scared.” People are being dragged out of their homes and people who could be next are *still* speaking up. Silence won’t protect you but it emboldens them
