I’m embarrassed to report today was my first visit to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries high up in Westminster Abbey. Waxworks, effigies, souls in flight… now one of my highlights of London, and getting up close with that architecture……

This was one of the late Brian Catling's favourite museums - you can see why from this photo. Despite his urging, I still haven't been. Yet!

“I am no longer an artist, interested & curious. I am a messenger who will bring back word from the men who are fighting to those who want the war to go on forever. Feeble, inarticulate, will be my message, but it will have a bitter truth, & may it burn their lousy souls” Paul Nash - 1/2:

These incredible figures, dating to the 19th century and made of walnut, are Bell Jacks and were once up at high level on Columbia Road Market in Bethnal Green. They’re huge, and very impressive to see ‘in the flesh’ 🤩

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Greg Newby, who led Project Gutenberg (

Fancy a career change and saving a critically endangered craft or heritage skill from extinction? Have a look at these. I'm currently undecided, but glass eye making and clay pipe making are top of my list! 👁️

Take a look at this. Someone did the same for me 8 years ago - donated their stem cells and saved my life when I had blood cancer, and donated again when I relapsed and saved me for the second time. So get on the

or
@dkms-uk.bsky.social

Post five pleasures in life: 1. Peeking at bone fragments in fancy reliquaries 2. A truly sharp gouge biting into a lime wood carving in progress 3. A cheap guitar with good pickups and a low action 4. Arches watercolour paper blocks and a decent inky brush 5. Cable cars in the Dolomites .
