Players are responsible for tone and complexity in your game, not the GM, Module, System, or any other aspect. No amount of gothic description, punishing mechanics, or creepy music can replace a player willing to let their character be afraid or make mistakes. Players, alone, control that knob.

When in the revision state of writing, one of the most practical writing tips I've picked up is to look at your paragraphs and find runts: very short final line of a paragraph that has one word (or a few words). Revise that paragraph until the last sentence is nearly flush with the right margin

Vocab for #ttrpg GMs: "Pacing" is a measure of how long it takes for things to happen in your game, how long scenes are, and how quickly you as a GM decide to cut between vying factions/PCs. How long you WAIT matters more than how quickly you cut. Give PCs time to exist and breathe.

A friend asked for #TTRPG advice. I said: Don't overthink the "plot" of the game. Focus entirely on the characters and what players WANT to do. They'll never "derail" your plans... be hungry to see how your PCs win. Be a fan of players/PCs; let them be special in a world that is fair but uncaring.

Iron Lung (2026, Movie) was quite good! On a technical level, it completes with horror movies with 25x the budget. Ava (played by Caroline Rose Kaplan) went above and beyond - incredible performance. Legitimately I went to support a passion project, but the limitations bred a ton of creativity.
