I feel so weird about mystery videogames. Maybe it's because I cut my teeth on the original Myst or something, but so many of these games become a walking simulator that it drives me crazy. Finding which highlighted yellow/blue thing to click on and in which order isn't very stimulating for me.

I've been an alpha/beta playtester for a few games this year and I've recently learned that many players (maybe 80%?) never actually consider how the systems of a game facilitate or force how players engage with the game... Designers NEED to workshop with other designer. You absolutely need it.

I wonder how much of the "melee vs ranged" gap in modern D&D could be closed by increasing the damage die of ranged weapons and removing the ability modifier to damage - as many other editions did. Melee conflict carries MANY more dangers than ranged - its why distance is always precious in war.

Sadly, it takes money to make things. The less money you have, the more you have to fabricate on your own. The more you do on your own, the longer it takes. So in about 44 years, maybe i'll have one of my TTRPGs ready for print. -.-

It's difficult discussing the specificity of TTRPG language with people. The more specific you write, the more important or unbendable a rule feels. The less specific you write, the more loose or malleable a rule feels. That texture informs the players as to what is and is not important.
