One thing that gets talked about a LOT in videgame development is establishing the major systems of a game as though players have never held a controller or moved a mouse before. Some players don't know the camera can move. TTRPGs need to do that, and spend more than a page on it.

Players are responsible for tone and complexity in your game, not the GM, Module, System, or any other aspect. No amount of gothic description, punishing mechanics, or creepy music can replace a player willing to let their character be afraid or make mistakes. Players, alone, control that knob.

Question for my #TTRPG folks. Do you use Henchmen / Hirelings / Personnel in your games to work with/against your PCs? I seem obsessed with turning TTRPGs into "employee management simulator" and i'm curious if anyone else enjoys that stuff? The REAL fantasy is loyal competent employees paid well

I found the opening hour and a half of Kokuho (2026) to be fantastic - full of drama and artistry. The next hour of the movie watching artists suffer shitty pointless lives of misery and abuse is expected, unwanted, and exhausting. The last half hour is sorrowful and beautiful. 8/10 for me, too.

I get frustrated making fantasy maps for #TTRPGs because I have a weird fascination with distances/measurements. When I translate an AVERAGE medieval structure onto a D&D style 5-foot grid, it's so enormous the squares vanish... MOST fantasy maps are half the size of a Walmart to prevent headache.

Putting it into the world - there are dozens of people from the 2012-23 #TTRPG community that literally altered my brain chemistry for the better, who are M.I.A. (missing in action) or deceased... I think about those folks CONSTANTLY, and I hope I always will. Send your friends some love today.

Your PCs (player characters) need to be the most unique and interesting characters in your game other than villains that they act against. The arms race of trying to make your NPCs cooler or more unique isn't worth the effort, I swear. Let PCs be the radical bad-asses whenever possible. #TTRPG

I'm working on a project for a job interview, and I fully and completely admit it took me 29 minutes to figure out how to mute the music on the program, but only 22 minutes to fabricate an entire encounter for their chosen TTRPG. I don't know how this brain works, and I fear its deepest truths

A friend asked for #TTRPG advice. I said: Don't overthink the "plot" of the game. Focus entirely on the characters and what players WANT to do. They'll never "derail" your plans... be hungry to see how your PCs win. Be a fan of players/PCs; let them be special in a world that is fair but uncaring.

Iron Lung (2026, Movie) was quite good! On a technical level, it completes with horror movies with 25x the budget. Ava (played by Caroline Rose Kaplan) went above and beyond - incredible performance. Legitimately I went to support a passion project, but the limitations bred a ton of creativity.

I feel so weird about mystery videogames. Maybe it's because I cut my teeth on the original Myst or something, but so many of these games become a walking simulator that it drives me crazy. Finding which highlighted yellow/blue thing to click on and in which order isn't very stimulating for me.

I've been an alpha/beta playtester for a few games this year and I've recently learned that many players (maybe 80%?) never actually consider how the systems of a game facilitate or force how players engage with the game... Designers NEED to workshop with other designer. You absolutely need it.
