This perfectly encapsulates how I feel living in the US. The republican party is an insane death cult, the democratic party is 3 corporations in a trench coat, and the "socialists" are just the completely normal left-wing capitalists you'd find in any of 2 dozen European nations.

Teen Vogue has been incredible for years but it was just now starting to get mainstream notice. There’s no VC threatening corporate governance mandating infinite group. This is privately owned. They just slashed their only property with a *growing* audience…because Wintour thinks it’s tacky?

This news is so intriguing! The prize will be focused on books published for children ages 8-12. It will be judged initially by 3 adults who come up with a shortlist, then 3 children will join the judging. Huge financial award to author, plus 30K copies of the honored books will be given to kids.

Publishers de-prioritizing children's books is just crappy, but it's also shortsighted financially: 1. Kidlit is recession-proof! Parents will always need to buy books for kids. 2. If you're not fostering the next generation of readers, then you won't have a consumer base 10-20 years from now.

Now, more than ever, you have to be a weird little pervert who makes art of questionable quality. You need to be driven crazy by the flesh. Because, as we all learned from Cronenberg's The Fly, the computers are not made crazy by the flesh. They can't do it like us.

Because while fighting each other might feel good in the moment, it: - Exhausts you - Exhausts the other party - Which (arguably) chips away at our ability to unify - And that's the last thing we need right now. There are a lot of things Dems need to be doing, and fighting each other isn't it.

Or am I doing this because I want to feel a certain way? Are there better things I can be doing to help save the republic? Are there candidates I can support? Can I call my reps? Can I stop book bans in my local community? Can I inform myself further - e.g. on Vought?

In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.
