Anyway, I don't think Gretchen ever got to do any other interviews about a book that now will not be seeing the light of day, so in case you missed it, here's my conversation with her from a few months back

What's DC's pitch to a prominent non-comics creator right now, especially from a marginalized background? "You'll get to write a superhero! For very little money! An insane fanbase will bay for your blood! And not only will we not defend you, we'll look for an oppurtunity to throw you overboard!"

I don't think you even have to like Gretchen to recognize that she, as a best-selling horror writer with an active following, was a get for DC comic. A DC comic was not a get for Gretchen Felker Martin

I think, at the bare minimum, DC should: 1. Publicly apologize to Gretchen Felker-Martin. 2. Release completed issues of Red Hood. This is the absolute least they need to do to even start making things right.

as others have said, it's interesting to note when companies like dc will cultivate queer talent and "queer voices" when it's profitable to do so and how easy it is for them to kick them to the curb because they'd rather not sacrifice their audience of nazis and nazi sympathisers

So @dc.com pulled Red Hood from digital storefronts but you can still buy all of Sandman. The lesson here is that DC doesn't care if you sexually assault women, but don't you dare make fun of a dead fascist.

I feel it is my responsibility as your mainstream comic book friend to further explain that what dc is doing to Gretchen is unprecedented They haven’t only cancelled the series, they are refunding the comics that are already created and recalling the issue that is already sold.

It’s an absolute shame that DC fired Gretchen Felker- Martin for exercising free speech and then @bsky.app suspended her account. Every writer here should be decrying this because we have to stand up for each other! This is ridiculous.

When I wrote this thread last week, I honestly hadn’t considered the notion that, on the list of catalysts with cutting pay, shuttering divisions/ layoffs, etc., would be DC bending the knee to fake outrage because of a barely spicy tweet from a marginalized creator. Absolutely pathetic.

I recommend that every single person who gives a shit about free speech and expression speak up in defense of Gretchen Felker-Martin. This sets such a dangerous precedent. If you care about free speech and you hate nazis, I recommend voicing complaints to your local comic shop about this too.

Banning a trans woman from a public platform and canceling her work is the exact sort of material harm that the dead asshole advocated for. @moderation.bsky.app, reinstate @scumbelievable. DC uncancel Red Hood. Everyone else, hire Gretchen. Buy her books. Black Flame's on my TBR list.
