Feds specifically carved out an exemption for government stuff in the law otherwise banning polygraph use. Polygraph machines are basically the same exact thing as Scientology e-meters that "read your thetans".

You beat it by knowing that they are not real. Polygraphs are fake science more like a ouija or a magic amulet than a real test. They only "work" by tricking people into thinking they do so you confess.

Random polygraph tests sound like a crackdown on leaks. In reality, they threaten the very rights federal employees and military service members rely on for fairness, privacy, and due process. Polygraphs fear, not truth.

Polygraphs can not determine the truth, guilt, innocence or lies. Polygraphs are invasive interrogations designed to get you to confess to as many crimes as humanly possible. If you agree to submit to a polygraph, you’re guilty, you just don’t know it yet.

Think about polygraph tests. Marketed as infallible and widely adopted, by the time it was rigorously tested it had too thoroughly penetrated its target market for it to ever be abandoned. Now it is used solely by gov't as a vetting tool with huge consequences despite no scientific justification.

The credibility of polygraph tests has been challenged since the 1920s. It's amazing it's still being used at all. The courts don't trust them enough to accept test results as evidence, but apparently the FBI does.

I applied for the NSA a few years ago and when I had to take a polygraph, I told the tester flat out that I think it's junk science. I ended up failing the test even though I answered truthfully and could only laugh. I took it as a sign that I really didn't want the job.

STOP. There is no such thing as a lie detector. There is a POLYGRAPH - which, if it's like the NSA, is run like a tool-assisted stress-test and interrogation. No concern for the mental damage being accused, yelled at, and eviscerated emotionally can have. Ask me how I know.
