Some personal context on this reporting: All of this happened just a few miles from where I grew up, in the near west Cook County burbs. My mom and her friends rode their bikes through these neighborhoods and around the ICE facility where militarized agents assaulted community yesterday.

Double win!! In two separate rulings, one with DHS and other with LAPD, a federal judge has imposed restrictions on use of force by police against journalists. The DHS case also includes protections for legal observers and protesters. With LAPD unable to police itself, a judge is stepping in.

Video shared yesterday on social media from a woman who says ICE stopped her and demanded her identification. She was not arrested. An officer can be seen wearing the Chicago ICE SRT patch we identified on Saturday. This is the equivalent of a SWAT team pulling someone over.

As DHS announced Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago/IL Monday, Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss said he got a tip from state officials warning of raids this week. Biss said the city had shut down license plate readers (amid the state audit) and was working alongside local orgs to keep residents safe.
