More people need to understand that saying only âcriminalsâ should be subjected to expanding state violence around us is what led to the broader public being targeted by it, too. Criminality is subjective, and power determines what it is or is not.

People have named whiteness & class solidarity as explanations for the selective outrage of some over Kimmel's targeting, vs. worse targeting of e.g. Ozturk, Khalil, Mario Guevara, etc. Yes, that's part of it. But I haven't seen people discuss the role of criminalization itself.
