Researchers have wildly variable views about what the future of A.I. will bring. “Which is it: business as usual or the end of the world?” Joshua Rothman writes.

Two Paths for A.I.
The technology is complicated, but our choices are simple: we can remain passive, or assert control.

I had a talk with someone earlier who very proudly informed me that they read only nonfiction. When I inquired why (dear God why), they simply said "I like my reading to teach me about the world." I laughed. All the facts in all the books in all the world cannot teach you any of what fiction does.

Why do people who claim to remember their past lives always seem to be reincarnations of Helen of Troy or an accused Salem witch or someone heroic on the Titanic, and never a random cabbage-selling wench from the 1500s who died in her sleep at the ripe auld age of 39 and never learned to read

Sometimes I am almost breathless with the cruel irony that a regime so hell bent on demonizing trans folks—in the name of “protecting” (white) ladies—is staffed by an cadre of cis men who have variously harassed, demeaned, assaulted, and raped women. *They* are the beasts we fear in the woods.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

There are many ways Trump could trigger a global collapse. Here’s how to survive if that happens | George Monbiot
It could be wildfires, a pandemic or a financial crisis. The super-rich will flee to their bunkers – the rest of us will have to fend for ourselves, writes columnist George Monbiot

Violence to our protective govt agencies is terrorism. Digital violence is terrorism. Use language that the right understands. “Terrorists often target government facilities, airports, large cities, and public gatherings. They may also target utilities, water and food supplies.“

People writing futuristic Dystopian type novels at the moment must be having a hard team keeping up with, let alone staying ahead of current developments. Reality is now more Dystopian than half of what I've read in recent times.
