No, he was not practicing politics in exactly the right way. He was a demagogue. He was a racist, misogynistic, liar, unconcerned with any group he wasn’t part of. That he was successfully persuasive does not make him one of the good guys on the other side.

I have a couple of comments about the "free speech hero" narrative about Charlie Kirk. First, was Charlie Kirk really notable for supporting the free speech of people he disagreed with? I haven't noticed that, though I could have missed it. /1

Charlie Kirk spent his adult life spreading hate and fear. He deliberately made life harder for minorities, immigrants and those who are different. Maybe you agreed with him, maybe you didn't. But those are facts. Everyone knows it. People and organizations venerating him are telling on themselves.

Is it really necessary to cover Charlie Kirk on every news channel? He didn’t just have different views on the capital gains tax. He was a destructive force in US politics in very malignant ways. He was killed in gun violence, that he, himself, said was worth tolerating. Who was worse? Nick Fuentes?

The most shocking thing about the murder of Charlie Kirk is that he’s married rather than a virgin wonder, which I always assumed

Charlie Kirk called me a ‘lunatic’ and a ‘prostitute’ and demanded I be deported. Nothing, *nothing*, justifies killing him, or robbing his kids of their dad. We don’t know the identity or motive of the shooter but murder can *never* be the response to political disagreements.

Like many Never Trumpers and other people with a public profile, I have been on the receiving end of death threats for years just for speaking my mind. No one in America should risk being killed for exercising their right to speak, no matter how despicable you think their views might be.

I don't feel any particular joy in Charlie Kirk getting shot. It's not the sort of thing I celebrate. But I also struggle to care when someone gets the very thing they've wished for openly, on multiple occasions, in multiple iterations, for literal years, b/c they thought it would be someone else.

I just know this will be a life altering eventing for Charlie Kirk that will lead to immeasurable personal growth
