The older one gets, the more one comes to realise that the “grown ups” you always assumed were running things and basically knew what they were doing are really just winging it, and are often either utterly clueless or lacking in any real power to do what they’re expected to do.

As it seems to be today's discourse: took me until i was about 23, and a fair bit of coaching from female friends IRL and online, to understand that being a nerd had NOTHING to do with my lack of getting laid. Was mostly about accepting women were people. Which is shocking. But it was early 2000s.
