One of the hardest parts of being a PI is saying goodbye to the amazing trainees that come through your lab and often influence your life. Sam Baglot was an amazing PhD student and while I know she will do great things with Ziva Cooper/Cathy Cahill at UCLA for her postdoc, I am sad to see her go.

Another high school friend passed away, that’s now 3/8 of the inner group of guys I was friends with through high school, this one from stage 4 lung cancer (the other two were liver failure and a car accident). This is in addition to another 32 from high school that are all dead before 45. Fuck.
