if you see soldiers shoveling, they're the home team. if you see soldiers standing around doing nothing, they're the visitors. got it.

We know that an area of concern is around sidewalks and curb cuts, especially near bus stops. For that, we are activating the DC National Guard. Safe Passage teams have also been out helping clear crosswalks and sidewalks near schools. Thank you to all who are out helping.

It’s cost the federal government *$223 million* for the National Guard to be deployed in the District between August-December 2025, and *$55 million* a month for 2,950 personnel to continue being deployed here…

I think it is somewhat interesting that the armed soldiers occupying DC against local wishes aren't attempting to win local hearts and minds or get easy favorable press coverage, but I'm not that surprised either

DC had its worst snowstorm in a decade and I haven’t seen a single guardsman with a shovel despite an ongoing, obvious need. I have seen scores continuing to stand around and waste taxpayer dollars.

DC, stay off the roads tonight if you can. Icy roads and low visibility make travel risky. Crews are out clearing streets—give them space. Stay home, stay safe, and let the District Snow Team get the streets clear.

Most areas have 3-5" of snow -- but transition to sleet has occurred inside Beltway. Expect 1-3" of sleet thru this afternoon and then maybe freezing rain. NOW a good time to shovel snow as sleet will compact it and make it much heavier. Updates:

❄️🥶 Cat-4 winter storm hits tonight. About 5–9" snow near Beltway (more NW, less SE). Flip to sleet/ice Sunday. S MD? Ice + outages. Travel could be near impossible during storm. Freeze all week -- maybe till Groundhog Day. Finalize prep. Stay safe. ❄️ More:
