Among the things my teen kid does that makes me proud is his sense of freedom to travel around DC. He gets so much confidence and joy from those outings, similar to how I'd spend hours lost in pastures and the creeks where I grew up. Curfews are a blunt tool. Dent the wood but don't hit the nail.

Wetlands serve as natural filters for rivers — helping purify water and remove sediment and pollutants. They are critical for flood control, groundwater replenishment, and providing a habitat for wildlife. To clean up the Anacostia River, DC has made major efforts to restore and protect wetlands.

NEW: A developer who illegally drained DC wetlands and polluted DC waters will pay $200,000 in penalties. During construction, RKP installed 200+ groundwater extraction wells — damaging protected wetlands by the Anacostia River. We also secured the permanent conservation of the remaining wetlands.

Storytime: I was on a work field trip 45 minutes away this morning when my cameras showed someone breaking into my house. My neighbors and MPD arrived immediately while I drove back home. Lucky for me, one of the items he stole was my laptop, so I could see where it was going.
