Transpo, cargo bikes, DC, cities, and housing. Car-free with a 6 year old.
Considering a staycation sleepover with 3 friends for our soon-to-be 7 year old's birthday. Has anyone ever done this before in DC? Any DC-area recommend hotels where this could reasonably happen?

Loving this book so far! Basically a free Black man in DC began the Underground Railroad and then wrote satire about successful escapes, mocking the slaveholders and exposing their secrets.

My big embarrassment for the day: I was desperately trying to shovel more snow on my sidewalk and obviously failing. Probably looked like a helpless baby bird. And then the mailman comes along and grabs the shovel and does the whole thing for me like it was no problem.

A stunning 18 percent of car-owning U.S. residents indicated that they were "strongly interested" in living car-free, and another 40 percent said that they were "open" to it, according to a survey.

This may seem small potatoes compared to everything else. But DC is a top tier bike city and they continue to try to grind us down every day in every imaginable way. Every small joy and safety worthy of federal intervention and destruction.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

I watched someone idle their car on a narrow street for 5 minutes, who then yelled at me not to walk in the road. What I should have said: “if you can block traffic for 5 minutes, so can I.”

Aurora a good bet this evening - look as soon as it gets dark. At KP9, aurora is often viewable around DC even with urban lights. Although aurora may be visible to the naked eye in such an intense event, cell phone cameras and other long-exposure photography will capture it more strongly.
