I went to lunch and came back 30 min later and in that time frame that giant pile of snow fell from the awning! It could have hurt someone!

So ok not to be the worst but this is bad design for a bike room: 1) behind breakable glass and visible/easy to scope and steal 2) barely wide enough to fit a bike in there when there are other bikes, let alone a longtail or bakfiets 3) only 3 floor racks and 3 wall racks?! With 20-some units

36% of DC households don't have a car—the highest rate of any major county outside NYC Those car-free households are concentrated near metro stops, especially between Dupont, Foggy Bottom, & McPherson. Green line stops like Columbia Heights, Navy Yard, & Anacostia also stand out

New research finds negligible benefit from "minimum passing distance" laws requiring drivers to give cyclists space when overtaking them. Protected bike lanes are far more effective.

I walked 3 miles to a work event tonight in D.C. I was 10 mins late due to the horrible state of sidewalks (due to the intense snow/ice storm here last week). But I was the first person there by 15+ mins bc everyone else took Lyft & got stuck in car traffic, took 40+ mins to go 3 miles by car.

My house is freezing but unfortunately I’ve found that doing gross chores like cleaning out the dishwasher filter and swiffering the icy shoe prints off the wood floors has warmed me up.

Considering a staycation sleepover with 3 friends for our soon-to-be 7 year old's birthday. Has anyone ever done this before in DC? Any DC-area recommend hotels where this could reasonably happen?

Loving this book so far! Basically a free Black man in DC began the Underground Railroad and then wrote satire about successful escapes, mocking the slaveholders and exposing their secrets.

My big embarrassment for the day: I was desperately trying to shovel more snow on my sidewalk and obviously failing. Probably looked like a helpless baby bird. And then the mailman comes along and grabs the shovel and does the whole thing for me like it was no problem.

This may seem small potatoes compared to everything else. But DC is a top tier bike city and they continue to try to grind us down every day in every imaginable way. Every small joy and safety worthy of federal intervention and destruction.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

I watched someone idle their car on a narrow street for 5 minutes, who then yelled at me not to walk in the road. What I should have said: “if you can block traffic for 5 minutes, so can I.”
