At current levels of CO2 emissions, we will break the 1.5°C warming limit in just 3 years - the crucial threshold to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. The climate crisis is already here and hitting hardest on the most vulnerable. We must act now to cut emissions and protect our future.

Today we launch the ‘Goals for a Fair Energy Transition’. The need for the government to manage the UK’s transition away from oil + gas production to renewable energy is now urgent. The transition can only be deemed successful if workers’ futures are secure.

During Treasury oral questions, Climate APPG Vice Chair @pippaheylings.bsky.social noted that just 7/87 offshore oil + gas companies plan to invest in renewable energy by 2030. Pippa asked what financial support will be available to create transition pathways for O+G workers.

A very interesting briefing from the new chair of the Climate Change Committee, Emma Pinchbeck, on the 7th Carbon Budget. A 70% reduction of our CO2 emissions will come from the electrification of transportation and home heating over the next 7 years - if we get it right. So let’s get on with it.

Yesterday an urgent question was granted on the Rosebank & Jackdaw oil fields. Members of the Climate APPG contributed to this debate, showing that developing these new fields is not in the public interest, won’t protect workers, deliver energy security, or meet climate goals.
