Today we launch the ‘Goals for a Fair Energy Transition’. The need for the government to manage the UK’s transition away from oil + gas production to renewable energy is now urgent. The transition can only be deemed successful if workers’ futures are secure.

During Treasury oral questions, Climate APPG Vice Chair @pippaheylings.bsky.social noted that just 7/87 offshore oil + gas companies plan to invest in renewable energy by 2030. Pippa asked what financial support will be available to create transition pathways for O+G workers.

Yesterday an urgent question was granted on the Rosebank & Jackdaw oil fields. Members of the Climate APPG contributed to this debate, showing that developing these new fields is not in the public interest, won’t protect workers, deliver energy security, or meet climate goals.
