LA Press Club v. Noem is the case where we won a preliminary injunction against DHS (ICE, Border Patrol, etc.) to stop them shooting journalists and innocent protesters. DHS is appealing, so our lawyers had to write a legally dense 33-page court filing. But I think they had fun with the intro!

Last Thanksgiving, two Dallas Police officers knocked on my door, citing a tip from the FBI national threat operations center that I was beating my girlfriend. The incident report confirms this. Today, I obtained a file from the FBI via FOIA that states the FBI has no record of receiving such a tip.

Please stop using language that suggests that people with criminal records are appropriate targets for this administration's violence. One in three adults has a criminal record. Stop playing sacrifice games with fascists. Stop surrendering entire categories of people in your own mind.

It’s not great journalism to only cite an anonymous source, and cite no sources to the other claims made in the story. At a minimum at least seek out other perspectives. Here’s a lawyer’s POV about the story from Reddit.

The “outside agitator” trope has always bugged me because it insinuates nobody can show up in solidarity if they live outside the imaginary city borders of a city. People can often neither pick the venue nor the issues, but they can pick whether to show up or not.
