Just ordered mine!!

I am almost certain this was the first carnyx ever played on Sark... And 100% certain it's the first in 2 millennia 😂 From the height of the Star Fort rampart, I could see Barry walking across the Coupée and sounded his arrival onto Little Sark. He said 'Ive never been piped aboard site before!'

The temperature has been brutal these last few days here on Little Sark (measured 34°C yesterday). We're trying to understand the 16th century star fort and the prehistoric activity under it. Fort construction obliterated most, but there are some nice remnants of the Neolithic.

Hot dry dusty trench. REALLY hot. Fate was teasing us with this 19th Century Gordon's gin bottle base. It would be hours before we had a cold drink!!

Arrived Guernsey and the weather is fantastic!! Next stop, Sark!!

And the Sark adventure begins! After a scary moment on the A34 where a lane closure made missing the flight a real possibility, we arrive in Southampton for the aerial part of the journey. (They laughed at 'Logistics Morrison' for wanting to hit the road so early, but I feel vindicated now! 😂

It's that time again!! The last day of frenzied prep before boarding a plane and then a ferry for the magical Isle of Sark. Shocked to realise it's my 15th year digging with Barry Cunliffe on his decades-long research into this incredible island.

When it comes to pointing, we will, of course, endeavour to maintain the highest standards as set down within archaeological guidelines 👇👆👉👈

Right, it's time for a long weekend. I've been full on traveling the length and longth of the country for work. It's been incredibly rewarding, but treating myself to some off-season sunshine. Chill the beer, #Naxos, here I come!

A classic example of why I write my own press releases. The endemic laziness in the world of what passes for journalism ensures that they pretty much just cut-n-paste whatever I've given them. They'll still usually butcher the headline, but dross like this is avoided.

It's brilliant so far - lots of like minded folk from all over. Our focus is Mongolia but the similarities of working in specialised landscapes with myriad challenges (policies, apathy, funding, etc) is a common thread.

Eeek, @wildlifebcn.org have called me an expert - a label I always shun, since we are ALL always learning. But I do hope I can shed some light on the heritage of the site for the Youth Rangers, as well as make the past come a bit more to life!

Am reminded that on this day, 9 years ago (wait, NINE??) I first saw Brownes Hill Dolmen on a #HFSG spring trip. Billy O'Brien took pains to point out (not incorrectly,I feel) that this is the largest Dolmen in the Universe. I apparently at the time felt it required contemplative perspective

A much needed look at a problem not discussed enough. DAY FIVE! The last day of #Glass-tonbury, our project to make Roman window glass. Yesterday ended badly, with a failure to gather molten glass from our crucible. Today started with Kim delighted at the solidified glass from yesterday, while #CuratorRob sharpened his axes. Which is normal. 😬
