Billionaires run our federal government, and yet they are taking from the poorest and making them even poorer. The decision to garnish wages, pushing millions into poverty, is a political and moral failure.

The federal government will tell you that you have a couple of options when you are in student debt default, and all of those options will involve paying them back. The truth is, you have more options than that. Options that involve NON-PAYMENT. There is time to prevent this.

The Department of Education can change its policy today. They do not have to garnish people's hard-earned paycheck — especially for a Department of Education that claims to be abolished and shut down.

Starting tomorrow, the Trump administration is set to send notices to 1,000 student loan borrowers (first round) noticing them of an intent to garnish their wages for student loan debt. This is cruel and unnecessary. If you receive a notice, send it to us and we'll try to help.

Between April and June of last year, 66% of the protested projects tracked by Data Center Watch were blocked or delayed.
