Getting stuck causes players to explore the world. Dying causes players to think about what they're doing. An "impossible" situation causes players to learn how the game works and eventually achieve the impossible. We need to be able to design *some* games around these fundamental ideas.

Steam is a notorious black box. They have content-affecting policies that they do not list and will not tell developers. They do not have spokespeople or contacts for studios to interact with. Steam is a rent-seeking machine. You put game in, it sells game, and 70% of the revenue comes back out.

Santa Ragione are a well-known studio, covered by a great many mainstream outlets. Their latest game will not be releasing on Steam for... reasons? Steam won't tell them why, won't tell them what needs fixing, and won't communicate in general. Every other store will carry it. Just not Steam.

It's so rare that you ever get a game where something happens mid-game that drastically shakes up the way you play it, because everyone's so afraid to have an actual gameplay narrative, or afraid that if the player doesn't "beat the game" (another charged term) they've failed as a developer.

Not even joking here, the term "gameplay loop" has done immense damage to creativity in video games, both AAA and indie.
