My 7yo daughter’s best friends’ family fled the country a few weeks ago. Today she came home with a drawing of her and another friend blowing whistles at ICE agents. “We’re blowing the whistles and so ICE will go away and our friends can come back,” she said. I started sobbing uncontrollably.

I need to get up early so I really should go to bed. (proceeds to watch hours of the most upsetting video you can possibly watch and sob alone in the dark)

The Star Tribune reports that federal agents "attempted to order local police from the scene" where a man was shot and killed by feds this morning, but Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara refused and "instructed his officers to preserve the scene."

I showed my 7yo a video of clergy shutting down the airport and they asked how her friends that fled the country would come back and when I said they probably arent she said “I want ICE to go fuck themselves.” So, I guess she hears a lot more than I thought.

still feels like folks outside of MN are kind of not getting it: our state has been under attack for over a month, and the resistance is being organized by literally your regular old neighbors and coworkers and friends.

I’m both heartbroken for and proud of my chosen home. Minnesota won my heart and for 20 years it continues to do so. We will fight till the last agent slinks away.

But when I asked an organizer what they wanted to see out of press coverage, they told me they wanted people to see the beautiful things they are building here, and not just the worst stories of the worst of ICE's crimes. What people are doing here is beautiful. It's a tragic beauty, but a real one

No one is safe. If you're not white, you're a target. If you're protesting this, you're a target. If you don't agree with them, you're a target. We save us. Protect each other. Keep the most vulnerable safe, risk yourself to do so.

In horror at the detention of a child, this moment from our reporting on Minneapolis today stands out — An ICE agent saw a bald eagle while driving with a detained US citizen. The agent said to the driver, “there’s a bald eagle, do you know what that means?” The driver said: “God is on our side.”

I was in the anti-war movement, the occupy movement, the women's march on Washington, fighting the school of the Americas.... There is something special going on here. It's just... everyone. Not just the left. Not just the young. Not just the commies from the bookstore. EVERYONE.
