you know what else is difficult? getting a gallery show. having your short story published. getting your novel even read by an editor. getting into a degree program in the arts. having a sculpture commissioned for enough money to pay the rent for a while.

so yeah, it's difficult right now. and guess what? it is going to stay difficult - whatever it evolves into as a result of this agony.

the point is this. the television and movie business as all of us knew it is dying because it has been poisoned from within, but that doesn't mean the world doesn't need stories, movies, and television.

because i received my call in a movie theater in puerto rico, i chose to go into the entertainment business. it has NEVER been an easy business - the shitty business climate of today is matched in its misery by the insularity, misogyny, brutality, and racism of the business i came into.

here's the thing about artists, it's not a job, it's not a hobby, and it's not a lifestyle. it's a vocation. the flip side of that? it's a compulsion and an obsession.

so i consider myself an artist, i know a lot of people don't consider television an art form, and they are wrong, but nevertheless, the blandishments of capitalism and commerce make some believe that it is somehow a lesser pursuit.
