I had been very reluctant to upgrade my phone, but my new one has more mobility and dexterity access settings that are real game changers - including being able to stop it (seemingly) from recognising my tremor as separate taps.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day. certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Today is 10 years since the Northen Irish Assembly voted in favour of marriage equality. A landmark day, but it was another 5 years before it became a reality due to the abuse of the petition of concern.

Their Facebook page says that the Taoiseach’s officials promised them a mediation meeting on Monday. It has now been postponed to Wednesday. They have now been on hunger strike for over 40 days. This is an appalling way to treat people.

Maybe you think that some people are applying for international protection cynically or dishonestly. So... would making it easier for someone to just come here and work fix that? Of course it would. Oh, but you don't want to do that either? Well, now who doesn't want to talk about immigration.

My wife has apparently been telling her peads patients "well your [insert siblings here] is probably better at this than you" to get them to enthusiastically participate in the anaesthesia process. I am now rethinking every interaction I've ever had with this master manipulator.

I know a lot of people (cough Millennials) feel like they need to START a thing, START a food bank, build a little free food pantry. My friends, my loves, my dears. Don't start. JOIN. These exist. They have community ties! They have some funding! Accountability! Regulations!

Can you imagine TDs scrambling to change the Constitution or commentators hand-wringing in the media if it was leftists who behaved the way the spoiled vote crew did, in the same (minority) numbers, after several bigoted riots. Not so much forced to pander to them as willingly taking a running leap.

And while I think of it, we looked at every single spoiled vote for Galway West that day, a lot were just badly filled out, some were clear spoils, but the reason why was not clear or consistent. You can't ascribe spoils to a particular point of view.

Once upon a time I had to spend a half hour looking over spoiled votes (for #MarRef) with Catherine Connolly.

Part of the reason that FF/FG are a bit hopeless in presidential campaigns is because it relies on having a positive vision for the future of Ireland, not just fear and a strong constituency game. #Áras25

I didn't get to vote today. Not news, but I didn't lose my vote on the president of Ireland when I moved to New Zealand, I lost it when I moved to Belfast. It is so beyond time to extend the vote on the President to the whole island.

This is the evidence given by Joseph Mahon at the trial of Soldier F who wa found not guilty today. He was 16 when he was shot on Bloody Sunday, read it and digest the reality of British Justice when the victims aren’t classed as fully human

It would have been a really good time, for the world, to show that soldiers like David Cleary could face justice for massacring civilians as though they had impunity.

As Barney's body lay out in the street in a pool of blood, the Derry Civil Rights Association banner held by marchers that day was used to cover him. Damien O'Kane's father (@mckanedj on Twitter) kept it and donated to the Museum of Free Derry, where it is now on permanent display.

I know a guy called David Cleary who hates that he has the same name as Soldier F.

As we await a verdict in the trial of Soldier F, another reminder that in 2010 the Bloody Sunday inquiry found - the killings were unjustified - none of the 14 dead (7 of whom were children) had guns - no warnings were given - no soldiers were under threat - the troops were the first to open fire

One of the people killed by Soldier F was a man who stepped out to help another of his victims as he lay dying in the street. He waved a white handkerchief as he did so. Soldier F shot him in the head. His name was Barney McGuigan and today his family had to listen to a judge acquit his killer.

Those families have been waiting for this for more than fifty years.

If you want to understand open adoption, it makes sense to start with birth parents—yet studies of them are few. 2+ yrs ago, I began talking w/ birth mothers to try to understand what living in an open adoption is like for them, and what rights or options they might have if challenges were to arise.

It would be nice as an emigrant to be able to vote in the #Aras25 election, it would be nicer again to vote for the head of state here in New Zealand.
