Dr. Eric White is a top scholar on the Gutenberg Bible, but in his free time, he's been studying one of baseball’s biggest mysteries – Who are the unnamed artists behind the classic Topps baseball cartoons?

To the 800 triple plays in @sabr's database, today are added 60 from the Negro Leagues. A handful of these are outside the @mlb recognized period of 1920 through 1948.

We’re excited to announce a significant addition to the SABR Triple Plays Database: 60 documented triple plays from the Negro Leagues and major Black baseball leagues and teams from 1906 to 1949 are now included, thanks to Seamheads research.

Bob Boyd was born 106 years ago today. We really should talk more about Bob Boyd. He’s one of those guys who got caught in the middle of integration, but just raked everywhere he went (and we have 7500+ at bats to prove it).

Imagine if you had every single Jackie Robinson card produced from 1947-1996, a 50 year span with 280+ different cards. Not a single one would show his uniform number 42 in its entirety. For that, the wait would be until 1997…but not from Topps. From Kenner Starting Lineup, Upper Deck, and Denny’s!

Friendly reminder that this 6/8/1867 Pittsburgh Commercial article mentions the earliest (thus far) official game played at Union Park, 20 years before it morphed into the @pirates Recreation Park. Also, proceeds went to help build the Civil War Soldiers Monument, which still stands.

José Ramirez has a 162-game average of 29 HR and 29 SB for his career. I have found only two players who have 30/30 for their career and both are active. Any guesses? For reference among retired: Barry Bonds 41/28, Bobby Bonds 29/40, Willie Mays 36/18, Soriano 34/24, HoJo 24/24…

The modern baseball lasts an average of 2.5 pitches before being taken out of play forever. In the pitch-clock era, it's astronomically shorter than the shortest lifespan of anything in the animal kingdom.

The question I got most during Robinson Canó’s 4000 hit chase was “does he know?” I was in contact with the team but wasn’t sure if it had been communicated to him. This angle is focused just on Robby for hit #4000. He knew. ❤️
