Gotta figure it was Leon Day, right? Here he is mixed in with a number of contemporary luminaries, including some of the greatest Grays, and, generally, baseball players, to ever put on a uniform at the (I believe) 1946 East-West game.

The updated Lahman Baseball Database, with MLB and Negro League stats from 1871 through 2025, is now available for download on the SABR website at sabr.org/lahman-datab.... The Lahman DB allows baseball researchers to perform complex queries across the entire history of the game.

It's been 40 years to the day since Bill Veeck passed away. He was the driving force of "Our Team," the character I started with, the constant as I shifted focus from the St. Louis Browns to the Cleveland Indians. Here's a snippet I wrote of the dance Veeck threw the night his wooden leg arrived.

We finished our tour on the far South Side with a few other non-baseball landmarks before heeding Shohei Ohtani’s advice (and @shoelesspodcast.bsky.social’s recommendation) and enjoying the very best Japanese BBQ in the city.

Then we used the wonderful @sabrlandmarks.bsky.social map to find a few other notable baseball grave sites on the far south side of Chicago, including Negro Leagues greats Rube Foster and Bruce Petway.

The Christmas Day baseball tour tradition continues with @shoelesspodcast.bsky.social and @pulhitzherprize.bsky.social! Today we paid our respects to my Internet namesake for the past quarter-century with a visit to Buck Weaver’s grave.
