People wouldn't be saying they wouldn't vote for Newsom if people stopped continually asking people if they'd vote for him. He's unlikely to be the candidate anyway, so demanding people say they'd vote for him if they needed to years in advanced creates the very hostility that you're afraid of.

Any Real social progress will have to include Social Justice along with Economic Justice, dealing with the Social failings of the New Deal era and Economic failings the modern Corporate Democrats. You'll have to push for solidarity between the White Working-Class and Racial Minority groups.

However, due to various factors (largely due the Dixiecrats in the Democratic party, among other things). They couldn't do Social Justice along with Economic Justice. Later the Democratic party was able to do more Social Justice but after the Red Scare they shied away from the Economic Justice.

Even approval voting is better than first past the post. Any change towards RCV of some flavor would be fantastic.

for me it's vote blue no matter who, but there's some rare exceptions like gavin newsome. if the candidate is already as bad a republican there's no point. i'd vote for an inanimate object like a dead rotting log over newsome, because an inanimate object wouldn't make things actively worse.

The fact that the response to Hasan saying “I’ll vote third party over Gavin Newsom” is to try to harass/shame him into voting for Gavin (implicitly treating Gavin’s candidacy/views as inevitable) instead of saying “maybe we should change to convince him” is everything wrong with electoral politics.

Even if you fully intend to vote for whoever the Democratic nominee ends up being, there’s a huge difference between doing that quietly in November 2028 and loudly announcing it years in advance with zero conditions attached.
