Mad respect to my Nonno for living w ankylosing spondylitis until age 93. I have days where I am like I cannot possibly continue living like this & I have way more support & treatment options than he did in his lifetime.

Kindergarten teacher here, and you’re absolutely right. We work on self-regulation so that students don’t go through school without social/emotional tools. Then, after work, I see people angry in traffic, in grocery store lines, on the sidewalk… acting out with less awareness than our students. 😕

It’s starting to help me understand previous generations a bit better. In a world where sudden death was more common, where we couldn’t count on medicine or technology to mitigate risk, it makes sense that they were living w a lot of trauma & grief that shaped their worldview & norms.

Have had a lot of time to talk & process w my mom & my husband. We are realizing that we are all traumatized. It makes sense, but I didn’t recognize it until the shock started to wear off a bit.

Something I didn’t anticipate about experiencing the sudden death of a loved one is how traumatic it would be & how it would put my nervous system into high alert. Btw this bad flu & the endless snowstorms I’m on edge about everyone’s safety. I just need things to be calm & they’re not.

One of the many cruel absurdities of all this is that we were supposed to see my niece for Christmas before she died, but we had to miss the gathering bc the parents of one of my son’s classmates decided to send her to school with a very bad flu. I’m angry. I’m confused. I’m profoundly sad.
