Trans people are not “fighting for unpopular positions that society isn’t ready for.” Trans people are fighting to KEEP the rights we have enjoyed for decades. We have been able to legally change our gender markers since the 70s and before. Same with bathrooms, sports, youth, all for decades.

I’m realizing that as Twitter became more of a hellhole I made a lot of friends that I still talk to & value a whole lot, & who have been a part of my life for almost 10 years now. It’s wild to think that the fray led to the type of #onted solidarity that created lasting bonds & real friendships.

It is so psychologically damaging to be really good at a really difficult & important job when the entire culture of that profession revolves around gaslighting the folks doing the work into believing that they are never ever good enough. And this defines so many female-dominated professions.

Once again would like to lend my expertise as a high school teacher to remind people that teenagers are children & not adults. I know, I know, shocking, but true.

A lot of sexual assault revelations coming out from years ago in my town & school, which I am sure is not an uncommon experience but also, as I said earlier: fuck.

It says an awful lot about the university sector right now that I - a 48-year-old history professor with a child and a mortgage, who loves what she does (mostly) - am having a serious conversation with a colleague about whether I ought to consider a career change.

I updated my pics here & now I’m questioning my decision to grow out my hair for donation again. And as silly as it sounds, I know everyone likes my hair longer. But I miss my short hair so much. It feels more me even if ppl think it looks less me & I can’t believe at age 40 this still bothers me.

Really missing city life on this first hot day of the year. City summers can be oppressive but we spent the last 9 years close to the western beaches so we got a nice breeze, & I miss always having neighbours around & out. It was like living in the past. Everyone knew us. We had community.

My husband and I used to talk about this as a good thing, believing everyone would want a world where more people & communities had diverse traditions, culture, & heritage. Apparently we were fools. We are also Canadian tho, so there’s that.

Having kids or not is a highly personal decision and I wish society would treat it as such.

This is such an underrated stance but it’s a really good one. No one should have kids if they don’t want to. It’s hard & thankless & basically nothing in society enables you to do it properly. Some of the most empathetic ppl I know won’t have kids for this reason, & I totally get it.
