rich people should pay lots of tax, well-off people should pay lots but less, middle class people should pay a good bit, etc taxes are what you pay to live in a civilized society to the extent you can and is proper, and we should not embrace tax-cutting on the left

It is so funny that, on top of all its other failings, BART just has a tunnel that for some reason is so incredibly loud itâs clearly damaging to your ears and theyâre just like âoh well, surely this must exist in all train tunnels.â

"a transportation system where a quiet, clean private vehicle arrives in minutes to whisk you to your destination without you having to deploy any human courtesy or deference" is fundamentally a fantasy of having the privileges of aristocracy, like the fantasies behind humanoid robot "servants"

Vielleicht.

Been listening to a lot of left-leaning US podcasts this week & it's amazing how little they care abt the impact this is having on the world. Lots of discussion about gas prices in the US & how it'll affect the midterms but zero reflection on the global economy or how poor countries will be crushed.

Rules and norms about war crimes are a global public good. If you or anyone in your family is between 16 & 60, male, & walks, you have a direct personal interest in it not being legitimate for them to be assinated for walking within any undeclared 3km radius around any combatant.

Sauer makes the common right wing argument that birthright citizenship is globally uncommon. That's not exactly true: it's far and away the most common citizenship structure for countries in the western hemisphere. "Europe doesn't have it and they have no humanitarian crisis" he says. But they do.

I met with AI data labelers in Kenya who are organizing their colleagues to fight the brutal working conditions and horrible pay given to the workers at the "bottom of the AI supply chain." They believe the NDAs they've signed are unenforceable so are speaking out:

A water desalination plant is presumptively a civilian object & it is an object indispensable to survival. Targeting a civilian object is a war crime. Targeting an object indispensable to survival can implicate the starvation war crime. NB:

I really It's kinda weird how the "The left hates technology (because AI)" mostly come from people whose experience with tech is on the level of vibecoding and the "left" they criticize consists to a significant part of people who've been actually building and maintaining systems for decades.
