Trump’s decision to fund war over health care & child care ‘raises questions’
Earlier this week President Donald Trump said the federal government cannot provide Medicare and child care because “we’re fighting wars.” Errin Haines, Editor-at-Large of The 19th, says this “raises real questions about what happens to the millions of Americans who rely on these federal priorities.” And Former HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says most voters will disagree with the president’s decision to fund war and not entitlement programs. “We actually believe in America first, and that means feeding our kids, having them go to school, having health care, being able to buy a house,” she said. “Not involved in bombs and wars that have nothing to do with the United States.”

Trump’s escalating threats against Iran sound ‘like a two-year old's fit,’ says a top Democrat
Rep. Adam Smith, a top Democrat in the House Armed Services Committee, says President Trump is improvising his war against Iran, putting him in a position of weakness. “Trump doesn't have a lot of good options in the short term; the one thing that they can do is they can blow stuff up,” Smith says. “The only reasonable option at this point is to try to first negotiate a ceasefire and then negotiate the best possible deal we can going forward."

Conway: It’s hard to be ‘evil enough & corrupt enough’ for Trump
Former officials say Pam Bondi’s firing reflects a fundamental limit: as Mary McCord notes, prosecutions require real evidence and grand juries that won’t simply deliver politically driven indictments. “That's not going to change because somebody else is then in the position of the Attorney General,” she says. George Conway adds that working for Trump presents its own challenge: “It’s very difficult to be evil enough, and depraved enough, and corrupt enough, and grifting enough for Donald Trump.”

Urban economist Jenny Schuetz says America’s housing crisis is the result of years of underbuilding—especially in the places where opportunity is greatest—and it won’t be solved by federal talking points alone. Real change, she argues, has to happen at the local level through reforms like zoning changes that make it easier to build more affordable housing. “This is about 24-year-olds not being able to move out of their parents' house and live independently, people not being able to buy their first home, essential workers not being able to live in the communities where they work,” she says.

America’s housing crisis isn’t just about rising prices, it’s about shrinking mobility. Local zoning ordinances have made it difficult to build affordable homes in high-opportunity areas, effectively locking working families out. The result is a more divided country segregated by income, and often by race. Real solutions have to start at the local level: reforming zoning, and democratizing who gets a say in shaping the communities Americans live in.
