When reality surpasses fiction! Top: fictional forecast for August 2050, broadcast by French TV in 2014 to warn about the consequences of global warming. Bottom: Real French forecast for yesterday, June 22, 2026.

“But then the economy recovered — and birth rates just kept falling.” Just because the economy recovered, it didn’t mean people had more money. People aren’t having kids because it is still expensive and almost impossible to buy a house w/o a trust fund today.

My young child biked on the sidewalk today for a few blocks and multiple ppl had the audacity to say “there’s a bike lane” as she rode by - I finally lost it and reminded them that someone was just killed biking in a bike lane this week, and I would not put my child on the street.

The USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor is the only U.S. historic site I've ever visited that was 100% quiet, with Americans showing complete respect. On that day, I doubt that any of us thought about snorkeling at the tomb of 900+ sailors and Marines. But Kash Patel thinks differently.

Government emails obtained by The Associated Press show that FBI Director Kash Patel went on a “VIP snorkel” session last summer at the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.

Why does Google Maps not suggest transit routes that include Metra and CTA trains in Chicago? I am struggling to find a map planner telling me how to get from the north side to the new Obama Center and it won’t give me any metra options, when that’s the closest station.

So let me get this straight: Somebody just tried to have a go at the most unpopular president in U.S. history and was (maybe?) killed by law enforcement agents in the lobby, so the roomful of journalists present on the scene are… going back to finish their entrees and have another cocktail or two?

A reminder that a newspaper doesn’t need an editorial board. Most readers don’t understand (or believe) they are independent from the newsroom. They could spin them off to a different publication if they wanted!
