The thing I’ve learned from Bluesky today is that people are VERY WEIRD about sex in movies. They’re VERY OKAY with violence and brutality and all other forms of horror but god forbid a breast be seen.

This is my favorite Godzilla for many reasons but this is absolutely one of them. It was resonant when it came out and even moreso now.

I mean there’s the entire r/nosleep subreddit which already spawned one of TVs best horror shows that no one watched (Channel Zero, it’s on Shudder now!) so this feels actually like one of hollywoods less misguided approaches to finding new talent.

Obviously this is all categorically false but I locked onto “never go on a date” as if there isn’t a whole multi season very popular Netflix show where people with autism do in fact go on dates.

I am telling you, I do not get actually scared scared in movies and this movie has a sequence that had me wanting to cover my eyes it was so scary. Treat yourself and check out Damian McCarthy’s Hokum

Some wonderfully upsetting in-camera techniques w/ focal distortions to warp the proportions of even the normal world and curving around “it’s about trauma” to tackle a more nuanced and irresolute idea that all the little things we compartmentalize might explode

What is the meaning of life?

My company just did a massive layoff, citing AI as the reason. I survived but my manager did not and it sounds like they want AI to be our new managers and I imagine it won’t be long until I am replaced. Very cool.
