I saw this announcement with shock and sadness. Raul put his heart and soul into teaching and mentoring.

My goodness, this is absolutely heartbreaking. Raul was not just a good friend, he was such an immensely kind and generous mentor who did so much to support junior colleagues and anyone on the margins in academia. This is devastating.
