Here is a thread about a true police-shooting incident that I'm going to use to pose a fun little thought problem for anyone anywhere who think there ia a single justifiable reason to ever allow a law enforcement officer to use force on a citizen and remain anonymous. From my back pages:

I cannot stress enough how, if you like fantasy, epics, action, good movies in general, Indian cinema, and/or RRR, you REALLY need to catch BAAHUBALI: THE EPIC on the big screen this week. Don't worry a bit about the run time, we hard-coded a ten minute intermission into the DCP and the film ZIPS.

is the theater I mention in the opening of my

The one venue I'll sort of miss at Sundance is the Holiday, a creaky four-plex with generally good vibes in the tent and decent picture and sound, only dinged because each theater had about 24 seats.

Seven Veils: Thrilling in its unraveling of impropriety across art in all its forms - stage, screen, even clay - all inextricable from pain. Bemused and slightly irritable, Egoyan seeks to understand a world profiting from harm. Amanda Seyfried is tremendous. Wildly great stuff.

I recently watched the same movie twice in one week; once at home and once in a packed theater. The film was exactly the same, but the different venues elicited very different responses. That led to this piece. I suppose the headline speaks for itself.

When car shopping I asked the Tesla folks "if there's a wreck and no power, how does my kid open the door to get out?" The answer was "oh easy they fold down some carpet under the seat to reveal a cable that has to be pulled a certain direction," which is goddamn insane, so I did not buy a Tesla.

Squeezing $40m in payola out of independent documentary film (plus $10m for what would be the $500 tier on a kickstarter) is honestly incredible. True galaxy brain grifting.

The most frequent question I get asked is about this scene. To me it's a lot more important to create an emotional experience rather than sending a message. It's something I can't explain with words. If I could, I wouldn't need to make this film.

The "ah see, NOW they'll regret voting for him" thing assumes that all the pain will be applied equally- but it won't. Blue states/constituents will get hosed, red states will get "bailouts". Remember what happened when all the states ordered PPE at once? FL got their full order, MA got 17%.
