I’m still catching up with a couple titles I missed (and waiting to see a couple of June releases) before I make a best-of 2026 so far list, but in the meantime here are the worst movies I’ve seen so far this year.

The recent Disney+ Muppet Show revival finally got my kids into the Muppets, and we’ve been slowly working our way through their entire film catalogue ever since. To my surprise, my family’s favorites are not necessarily the consensus picks.

I am a sucker for most of John Carney’s movies, and I liked Power Ballad too -- although it approaches his familiar territory from a new direction.

If you’re a Letterboxd patron, the background of the first of your favorite movies becomes the background of your profile. So if you had Muppets Take Manhattan as your 1st fave, and this image as its background, then every time someone looked at your profile, this is what they’d see. Just saying.

Paid subscribers on Letterboxd can choose the background they want to appear on each movie’s home page. For some reason, this is one of the options for The Muppets Take Manhattan.

I finally got to see The Wizard of Oz at Sphere. Whatever you think of the changes they made to this particular movie, I have to confess: I thought the Sphere itself was an incredible place to see a film.

No one has ever come up with a better description of IMAX than my eight-year-old daughter: “You’re not just looking at part of a wall. It’s the whole wall.”

Ridiculous low price for Opposable Thumbs right now if you, for some inexplicable reason, don’t own it yet.

George Lucas loved to say Star Wars movies were for kids. Let’s see if he’s right — here is my eight year old’s review of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
