During PMQs, Keir Starmer indicated that it would be wrong for the Lords to use delaying tactics to block the assisted dying Bill. The public overwhelmingly supports choice at the end of life - a small number of longstanding opponents must not block this Bill.

This is the devastating impact the cruel blanket ban on AD has. My heart goes out to Louise. All her husband Anthony wanted was a good death, as do I and so many others with a terminal illness. We need to support @kimleadbeatermp.bsky.social assisted dying bill to have a safe & compassionate law.

Today the Prime Minister joined me in thanking colleagues for their hard work on the Terminally Ill Adults Bill committee, and confirmed that if Parliament passes the Bill, the Government will respect the will of the House & ensure its safe implementation.

One year without Paola. A year ago today, Paola died at Dignitas. She was forced to leave her home, her country, and her loved ones because the law denied her choice. She should have been able to say goodbye on her own terms, surrounded by those who loved her.

Yesterday, the Committee debated the creation of a judge-led commission which would appoint a multidisciplinary panel of a KC, psychiatrist and social worker as a third tier of oversight in the assisted dying process. I believe this would strengthen protections in the Bill. (1/4) 🧵👇

Assisted dying is not new ground in healthcare - it's an extension of person-centred care at the end of life and is tried-and-tested in places like Australia and the US. 🧵

As someone with a terminal illness & an allergy/intolerance to most opioids, I urgently want this safe law to be brought into place. All I am asking for is the choice, if needed, not to prolong any suffering at the end of my life.
