Writers, it's the time of year when 'Best Of's' and award noms are announced. There is a lot of great work being done, a lot falling through the cracks and going unrecognized. It's inevitable. It's validation enough that you created something and put it out there. Ignore the din and keep writing.

The rejections persist, but so do the submissions. Really is a bummer that the stories I love to write aren't the right kind of shiny to catch an editor's eye from their gigantic slush pile. I'd rather write what I love and not be published than try to chase acceptances.

i think more people should write things explicitly with the intent of not explaining them to the majority. i think sometimes readers should have to learn and understand on their own. i think we should write more things for our own people and not the masses.
