The frankly abhorrent display of white supremacy and racism yesterday has no place in 2025. In Victoria, Neo-Nazi’s stormed Camp Sovereignty, a peaceful First Nations meeting place, where people were ambushed and assaulted.

For years we’ve known that these are the things that will prevent this kind of far-right extremism, we had a parliamentary inquiry to prove it. Yet the government has turned a blind eye. The time to act is now. Implement all the recommendations from the inquiry.

Premier - are you seeing this? It’s been coming for a while, and it’s past time to step in and stop this white-supremacist violence at its root. Youth support, deradicalisation, anti-racism education, tackling inequality.

Governments aren’t screaming about it with urgency.  Placating people isn’t going to solve this corrosion. Community building will. Tackling inequality will.  When neo-Nazis are marching through the streets, there is no more denying what’s happening.  The time to act is now.

When the neo-Nazis started to congregate and organise in Victoria years ago, we sounded the alarm.  A parliamentary inquiry initiated by the Greens gave the Victorian government a good chance to understand the nature of the threat posed by these right-wing extremists.

On Tuesday night, Yarra Council (not me!) voted for concept designs for Elizabeth St that would see the existing bike lanes made more dangerous, in favour of more car parking. Next step: detailed designs. $200k was approved in the budget for this. That’s $4,000 per car park… just for designs 😵‍💫

For those following Yarra’s bike lane narrowing saga: concept plans for narrowed lanes approved 😭😭 (despite safety audit painting a pretty grim picture!) Now over to the state government to approve… (after another $200k is spent on detailed designs for less safe lanes 🙃)
