These intersections in Florence are a perfect example of why transit priority is also, or even primarily, a problem of street design rather than technology. The intersection on the left misses a pedestrian crossing due to a lack of refuge space needed to cut pedestrian crossings in multiple phases.

Cycling in Auckland is growing! February 2025 showed a 3.7% increase vs 2024 (adjusting for leap year). Daily averages are approaching pre-Covid peaks, with a steady upward trend since 2022. Can't wait to see the March Madness numbers!

Queen St Auckland used to be 4-5 lanes wide with 10,000 cars a day. Now only 2 lanes wide and through traffic has been removed. It terminates at this stunning plaza.

Donald Shoup had a huge impact on our work and eventually NZ cities. In 2010 we sponsored his trip to NZ where he presented at an NZPI conference and a public forum in Town Hall. Many people recall that event as a watershed moment for the coalescing urbanism movement in Auckland. RIP Donald Shoup.

One of Meanjin/ Brisbaneās great features is the large number of green bridges. The Kangaroo Point green bridge, opened today, is just the latest. Quite the contrast to TÄmaki Makaurau/ Auckland where you canāt walk or cycle across the WaitematÄ Harbour.
