how about this: take all the id1 maps, chop out memorable sections from each, make them self contained, add slipgates at the end of each, randomize monster/item spawns, randomize next section on exit a pseudo roguelike structure while keeping familiar places + playing into the slipgate concept

kinda wanna do some mod for quake's 30th anniversary, but needs to be low cost in terms of work hours so without much custom content. maybe remixing something with the original map sources
