Uninstalled Snowrunner a couple days ago both because it stopped being fun again, and because I think holding down the right trigger on my gamepad was starting to give me carpal tunnel or something because I was starting to get funny nerve ending feelings in wrist and forearm.

Lifehack! Render your game at half the vertical resolution, then mix it with an old fashioned accumulation blur to get an approximation that looks terrible (complimentary) the way an N64 used to look terrible (derogatory) on the native hardware. Pic related is using 360 vertical lines of resolution.

I've finally done it. Old fashioned accumulation blur to sort of mimic the way a crappy LCD would have smeared on a PS2 demo station, the look that turned me off PS2 for years.

Freelancer is one of the reasons I love lens flares. Every sun in the game had a different lens flare, and you could tell what type of sun it was based on the flare. They were specified in config files and created programmatically, so they scale/occlude very well and don't just look like a PNG.

Look at this stupid chud SUV. It's trying so hard to look tough when it's actually completely mediocre. I shoehorn it into any ultra-specific niches I can find for it because I want to protect its fragile ego.

Crazy how I went from hating Snowrunner to kind of loving it? Just look at the size of this lad!

The H2 really isn't that good, but it's pretty fun to drive on the rare pavement in the game.

More Snowrunner insanity. I've gotten to the point where I'm mostly having fun. The game really is A LOT better once you get trucks big enough that they can mostly drive over your problems. More in the alt text.

The Mi-8 in DCS has ruined helicopters for me. I don't know how it can be topped. It's so hard to make a video game helicopter satisfying to fly when the Mi-8 exists.

I think I know what's giving the DC helicopters their comfortable slight nose down flight profile and top speed. The engine seems to generate more thrust at liftoff than at speed, and at speed, it's delivering maybe like 70% of the engine power. You know what that sounds like? One of these:

My monitor is developing a sort of noisy grain pattern on it and I kinda like the way it looks? It's like a built in hardware dithering almost.

I enabled the "debug rotors" so you can see what the real physics rotors are doing on the helicopter and how they work and deflect to turn.

So I remember that everybody saying that the Desert Combat helicopters from Battlefield 1942 were very unique and the best ever. I don't remember much about them, but I do remember back in the day digging through their code and being very confused by how weird their setup is.

Talking about this with some other people, and a very interesting point was brought up: Demos might be better for discovery than selling you the game. Even if it's a game that I probably would buy, but never hear about it, then there's no way I could ever buy it!

We'll be getting an answer once and for all by July.

Tried Overload First Strike, basically a Descent 1 mod for Overload. I played the first 8 levels, but I'm very curious about the later ones. The layouts are mostly unchanged, but the visuals dramatically different, so I sometimes get lost. Not used to graphical fidelity like this for Descent levels.

DCS should let server hosts inflict music on players.

Started Rogue Squadron 3D last year but never got around to finishing it. Should really do that this year even if the controls drive me insane. It's such a great arcade adaptation of Star Wars space combat otherwise, and a very well made game.
