I'm starting to think all that dithering might have burned into my monitor, because there's a weird, almost cloth-like noise pattern that appears on the monitor. It seems to be concentrated in the top left quarter of the screen, which aligns with where the game window is in the Unity Editor.

It's not just wheeled vehicles anymore.

Basically this segment of Unsolved Mysteries where a student pilot starts reporting seeing weird things in the sky before disappearing. It's one of my favorite episodes.

Game where you start the game as a student pilot getting their instrument rating, so you fly almost exclusively at night time, and a good portion of the game is spent learning your gamified/simplified pilot instruments and operating the radio. You need to fully understand "normal" first.

The thing I look forward to the every daylight savings time change, is fixing this clock in the car. This clock is only a clock. It is so laser focused on being a clock, that the only thing its 3 buttons do is adjust the displayed time.

Weight painting in Blender really has me thinking "there has to be a better way."

I never got around to posting this from a couple weeks back, but I made this after getting frustrated at Rogue Squadron's controls being really, really bad. There's no juice here. It's very barebones. It's just meant to be as close to RS3D's controls as possible, but good instead.

Still one of the best combat space sims of all time and a huge inspiration for me. Can't recommend this one enough

These are the earliest screenshots I have, one of which is just called ai.png, and I'm assuming it's when I got my first ever steering behaviors working. The other is a simple camera/controls test. 3rd person!

Incoming's HUD vs Rogue Squadron 3D's. I'm kind of amazed at how RS gets away with almost nothing on it, but because of the mission design and copious voice overs it works completely fine. The total lack of target markers feels surprising, but it keeps the player shooting at things, not icons.

I'm not normally a merch person, but I loved this game (and its art) so much I had to do it. Play @hcnone.bsky.social's Endless Monday it's really good!

Playing Gauntlet in BF6 (it's free), but I can't tell if I'm having fun or not. When I play, I'm like, not all there. It's more like my FPS lizard brain just responding to the stimulus of flashing lights and explosions than really "playing" a game.

Way back in 1998 I was working on my first PC title, 'Incoming'. I was tasked with CPU & GPU optimizations and 3D card compatibility. Back then PC 3D cards were in their infancy and had lots of issues, mostly associated with their drivers. Sometimes we had to work around know problems with hacks!

Absolutely insane that people like the guy posting in the photos here are paid so, so much money to burn through employee livelihood and consumer sentiment just to come to the profound discovery that people like services that work well and are even just a little bit customer-friendly.

If Amazing Digital Circus had come out when I was younger it would have been my entire personality.

I just noticed Rogue Leader stretches the laser until it's the correct length instead of just spawning a full length laser.

Why do I have no problem accepting a Comanche shooting rapid fire purple lasers but if I were to make this myself there's now way I could make it shoot anything other than bullets with yellow/orange tracers 😭

Now with all that out of my system, I don't have to talk about the Halo Remake anymore. Go play Incoming or Rogue Squadron 3D they're really fun vehicular arcade action.

Let's talk about it, because it's a microcosm of how I feel about this remake. The new Warthog SORT OF has the 343 double wishbone suspension with coilovers, but it ALSO has the crazy torsion bar suspension of the original. Far and away the best 343 Warthog, but... This is going to be a LONG one.

This is the best flight game I have played all year. It's stunning in VR.

The flight model is so much fun. This is very much filling a niche for me with physics realistic enough to be really interesting and fun, but the systems are still roughly in the simplified VTOL VR ballpark.

As with all of Hijong Park's other games, there's a free version too, which is the exact same game if you don't have the money to spare. But this is by far their most ambitious and polished game, and it has full VR support!

Hijong Park's Defender Patrol has been released! This game started as a "I'm going to make an MD500 game because nobody else will," and has evolved into a little battlefield with interactive cockpits and simlite realism. If you have a joystick, the helicopter is really fun to throw around.

Everything I need to know about the Halo remake can be answered by one question: How does the Warthog's suspension work?

I've been trying to use Jetbrains Rider lately in lieu of my old standby Visual Studio, you know, Just In Case. The debugger (where I think VS really shines) so far I would describe as adequate. While I don't love Rider, it does feel like a totally viable alternative to VS if push comes to shove.

The Sega and Military Industrial Complex collabs of the 90s sure produced some real bangers.

Ironically the Steam Deck is the only place I can easily record footage of Rogue Squadron, since to the Steam Deck, everything is running Vulkan.

Based on a gist about accurate PS1 dithering, I did some experiments last night. The problem with post processing dithering (which I've used before and like quite a bit) is that you are dithering after rasterization, which is AFTER colors have been crunched down to the R8G8B8A8 render texture.

It's really difficult to find screenshots that show this, and it's also really difficult to get screenshots of the game, but it really tickles me how oversized all the ground units are in Rogue Squadron for the sake of gameplay. I didn't even notice until I almost collided with an AT-ST.
