Shout out to one of my favorite things in Macross, the giant boosters they strap to VF-1s to shoot them into orbit when no carrier is available since the VF-1 isn't capable of getting to orbit on it own.

Thinking about this, I don't generally play MP games like this. If I get into one, it's basically the only MP game I play, often for over a year. Though for SP, I guess I can say though that I replay Half-Life and Halo regularly. Great games. Easy/short to replay. Lately, it's been BF1942 with bots.

Half-Life (1998)

I kinda like Skate? The presentation is really lame and the monetization is very in your face, but at the same time the skating itself is really fun and I have a hard time getting mad at the monetization when it's all just like, branded clothes.

Checked back on Blue Sky and noticed that this has completely left my orbit and entered the Furry System. All of a sudden I see +30 on the notifications and every icon (this is not an exaggeration) was an account with a furry profile pic. I guess in hindsight I see why.

Halo: Combat Evolved (2001). Large open environments and smart enemy AI.

If you played the demo of Easy Delivery Co. you already know what to expect. High speed reckless deliveries with great vibes. Huge recommendation from me. It's great. It's out. It's ten bucks.

I have just been informed that Easy Delivery Co. comes out in a few days. This is the game I'm looking forward to the most right now. I had no idea it was coming out so soon. I had filed it away as a "check back in 2 years" game.

Hi, it's me, the Microsoft Flight Simulator trim behavior. The only game which treats your trim input like it's reading raw from Windows message pump WM_KEYDOWN and starts repeating inputs like it's Microsoft Word.

Unity could make a Unified Renderer by deleting both URP and HDRP and then putting everybody back on BIRP.

Okay not going to touch this anymore. Will probably upload it to Github this weekend or something. It's pretty fun to fly, and really satisfying when you precisely slow down or stop at a specific point for the next turn.

I actually wrote that BF3/4 inspired helicopter completely from memory. However, after double checking in BF4, it turns out that the BF4 helicopters also do numbers 1 and 2! It's just a much more subtle effect because BF4 is very concerned with responsively maneuvering in tight spaces.

I was curious how BF2 compared, since it's been so long. I remember when playing BF3, thinking it didn't seem so different, but there were a lot of BF2 pilots that complained about it being simplified. They're similar, but they are TUNED pretty differently, with non-trivial gameplay implications.

Made the Battlefield 3/4 helicopter. I'll probably upload this code since it's so simple. Helicopters are I think the weirdest vehicles out there to program because peoples expectations for how a helicopter should even control are all over the place.

Holy smokes BF2 is a huge improvement over BF1942 in almost every way. I will always have a soft spot for BF1942, but BF2 I think really is the peak of the series.

Glacial take but Unreal Tournament '99 has aged brilliantly. It's so much fun to boot up, play some quick matches with bots, and then move on with your day. Also good for research.

Working on a first/third person shooter for this little multiplayer practice demo thing has reminded me that actually I really like shooters.

I did not know they made a sequel to Wetrix. I still have no idea how to play Wetrix but I'll never forget it. Inscrutable. Surreal. Vaguely threatening. It's what people who don't know what video games are feel when they see a video game.

File sizes of various Unity Editors I have installed. This is not a super apples to apples comparison because packages and modules will affect their sizes, but I found it nonetheless kinda neat.

I am pleasantly surprised that this worked. It tickles me too that it glitches out in exactly the same way standing on top of vehicles in BF1942 used to work too.

I don't think there's anything as consistently frustrating and maddening as a video game that is bad on purpose. A game that is deeply compromised, full of decisions that nobody thought would make the game more fun or a better experience. They COULD have made a good game, but they CHOSE not to.

Getting in and out of vehicles is mostly working fine. Though there's still some bugs, one that I'm honestly not exactly sure how I'm going to fix.

Networking introduces so many interesting complications that when you're able to tackle them one a time in small isolated incidents, can be kind of fun. This mini-project has been really overwhelming to the point where I had to restart like 3 times but I'm finally moving at a decent clip.

I think my favorite never really talked about common sense feature of Godot is how it has built in support for randomly picking from a list of audio clips to play. Not only that, but it has built in support for randomly adjusting the pitch slightly.

Battlefield 1 is a game that I like a lot of things about, but don't actually like the game itself. For some reason this game never clicked with me, despite being arguably the most impressive Battlefield game of all time.

Seeing this, it's no wonder I used to be so big into racing games. Truly an embarrassment of riches.

Torn between wanting to make something like "Tiny Battlefield 1942" and the fact that Ravenfield literally already exists. BF1942 has such a purity to it that I really love to revisit every once in a while, but it definitely shows its age in a few quality of life areas.

I think about these lens flares a lot.
