Bus service assessment this morning… with a view! 🌅

@customeradvocate.bsky.social HBLR trains are delayed and one just showed up on the southbound track going north. What’s going on? Where’s the communication from NJ Transit?

Four of the top 10 cities: Jersey City, Hoboken, West New York, and Union City are in Hudson County, population of 700K people, size and density of Boston. Large majorities are commuting to work via bus, light rail, and PATH, and there's so much more potential if we invest further!

Danforth Light Rail’s staircase is finally repaired and fully reopened, a needed fix that @hudcostreets.org has been calling for. NJ TRANSIT continues to make gradual improvements to HBLR service & stations.

Not only did NJT screw Jersey City today by not running HBLR downtown with no explanation, the schedules in the app are wrong. Just waited 30 min at a stop outside of the festival zone and I learned buses were rerouting. Website says normal sched.

@customeradvocate.bsky.social it is too darn hot for the HBLR to just be doing “whatever” instead of following the published schedule. Currently eight minutes since the scheduled time and no sign of the train. No information in the official app, and *still* no countdown clocks at Garfield St.

Useless Light Rail on July 4th weekend! Why isn’t there an alert in the NJ Transit app about no service? Why does the Transit app say there is MORE service? Yet, they are still playing @mikiesherrill.bsky.social announcement about how great this state is! 😡😡😡

Blocked bus stops and bike lanes don’t just cause traffic, they can put riders, pedestrians, and cyclists in danger. The Transportation committee advanced legislation (A1545) yesterday that would allow NJ Transit buses equipped with cameras to issue citations to vehicles illegally blocking lanes.

From last night on the PATH at 11:41 p.m. at 14th Street, where it was so full people could not fit on. Clearly, service every 20 minutes on Friday nights isn’t sufficient. It’s also very much a safety hazard.

Govenor @mikiesherrill.bsky.social because service runs every 20 minutes right now, that means there is going to be a 40 minute gap in service.

Could fusing NJ TRANSIT and the NJ Turnpike solve transit’s perennial funding problems? Some think it might. Others will need to be convinced. What can be learned from others (eg MTA, PANYNJ, MD DOT) that have done this? For now, Kris Kolluri is testing the waters helming both agencies.
