The problem with takes like these is that they fail to consider how vehicle fleet turnover actually works, at all, a massive and fatal blind spot that dooms climate activism. It's true that China is leading the world with EVs. But the U.S. is leading the world with gas-guzzling trucks & SUVs.

Was on a very crowded 119 on Central Ave and some inconsiderate person doubled parked. We had to wait 3 minutes before he ran back into his car and drove off. A bus full of people. 🙄

You love to see it!! If you are a Jersey City driver and hate being stuck in traffic, this is good news. If the City is willing to put in the supports to enable more car-free households then everyone benefits.

The 2024 one-year Census ACS data show that almost 44% of JC households are car-free for the first time since this data series started in 2011. It's noisy data (+/-4% margin of error), but the trend is clear I think.

Like lots of people, I grumble & complain when a bus I’m waiting for is late. Unlike many people, I know that the reason it’s late is the bad traffic it’s stuck in that’s filled with cars, mostly with just 1 person in each. And that the answer is bus-only lanes that will help EVERYONE move better.

Pedestrianizing a main street spine in central Reykjavík was controversial with businesses when it was first done, so they made it a summer pilot.
