As others have noted: What would you think if he took a wrecking ball to the Washington Monument or Lincoln Memorial? It's truly the same thing. Those structures belong to the people.

There is no difference between Trump destroying the East Wing and using a wrecking ball on the Washington Monument or Smithsonian. Just because he (temporarily) lives there doesn't give him the right to demolish the White House without Congressional approval.

Trump 2.0 remains a live experiment in "can you do authoritarian consolidation entirely based on control of the information environment while repeatedly kicking your own coalition in the teeth" (I don't know what the answer is! the experiment is ongoing!)
