Omg I wanttttt. The effect lasts ~3 months in animals, but if it works in humans too this would be an awesome option before holidays, vacations, respiratory illness season, etc.

We don’t live in 2019, however much we’d like to. The situation changed. The risk profile changed. Adapt or lose ground entirely needlessly. It is so hard to watch people continue to make this disastrous error.

coming up with a new idea called "driving like shit olympics". no more bland, unprovable statements like "california drivers are the WORST" allowed. whichever state wins every 4 years gets a moonshot-sized public transit investment to get those fuckers off the road

People already working hard to prove how perfect Alex Pretti was. To show he didn't "deserve" to be killed. But it's a trap folks. You're only feeding into a dynamic where people who are considered lesser get no protection. You don't have to be an Alex Pretti to deserve to live.

The US has officially left the World Health Organization. The damage that has been done in the past year to our health institutions will take years to rebuild, if we get the opportunity to do so.

US withdraws from the World Health Organization
The United States officially left the World Health Organization on Thursday after a year of warnings that doing so would hurt public health in the U.S. and globally, saying its decision reflected fail...

Even after Trump is gone, the world will remember that he threatened to forcibly seize the territory of a peaceful democratic ally, and our institutions failed to immediately remove him. That makes US dangerously unreliable, not just one senile gangster.

I continue to believe that one of the things that fuels this “no protests” myth is that the US is a massive and sparsely populated nation that can’t continuously and consistently converge on one central city the way, say, the French can.

A good question to ask if you think “but why would government officials lie about Covid??” is can you think of any other topics on which they have lied or delayed necessary action? Like AIDS, perhaps. Or climate change. Or weapons of mass destruction. Or the Bay of Tonkin. Or the president’s health.

Too much of my life right now is at the whim of capricious, vindictive, selfish, shitty people in the twilight years of their lives who seem determined to make themselves the main characters to the bitter end. Anyway, maybe tomorrow.

“Hypernormalization describes a state where a false, simplified, or surreal version of reality becomes so accepted as normal that people lose the ability or will to challenge it, even when aware of its untruth, often due to systemic inertia or lack of alternatives.”

Blender shading and filter experimentation. Followed a Lana Easteregg tutorial for the first scene, then tried some pixel filters for the second one. For the last one I had to download an older Blender and replace the materials with color ramps. Why is it hard to get sharper pixels in 5.0 😵💫

A hundred thousand people on average still die annually and thousands more become disabled or have a lowered quality of life from Covid-19 complications. Easier said than done but the only way to prevent this is to avoid infections.

A study on 1.7 million people in Hong Kong shows superior hybrid immunity to Covid in people who got vaccinated before infection vs. people who got infected first. "Our findings are a direct rebuttal to arguments for natural immunity," the authors write.

Bad framing: ACIP voted to scrap the universal hepatitis B vaccine recommendation for newborns. Accurate framing: Anti-vax conspiracy theorists appointed to ACIP by Robert Kennedy Jr., who made a fortune as an anti-vax profiteer, voted to expose babies to a preventable, incurable, deadly illness.

There's still time to get vaccinated before the holidays. Covid and flu cases are already increasing around the country as people travel and gather indoors. Flu in particular is expected to be bad this season. Protect yourself and others, get vaccinated, wear masks in indoor public spaces 😷 🤍

This is very good. I like to remind people that headlines in the 80s would (regularly!) talk about people who drank lattes or ate sushi as exotic, self-indulgent yuppies with obscure tastes. Media constantly made fun of “haute cuisine” meals with tiny portions because fine dining was bad.

Normalize masking in public spaces. It makes things safer for young children, the elderly, and immune compromised. Even if you think you're not "vulnerable", reduced allergies and getting sick hardly ever is a really nice bonus. 😷
