If you could use a little bit of optimism today, here are some stories of North American bird species that have recovered from the brink of extinction.

The surprising recovery of once-rare birds
It’s not every day that you see a 4-foot-tall bird, but it’s happening more often. Several fascinating species are nesting in and near towns once again.

Making wild incorrect speculations about current events and then deleting them when you're proven 100% wrong is one of the joys of posting. And many are partaking in this classic posting delight today.

Junk mail, packaging, misprints, and old files have all gone into these sheets of handmade paper. It's so interesting to see these random bits of paper blend together to create new sheets.

Jesus I just got an email from Canada Post saying that they won't accept any US bound (sale) packages without prepaid duties and that the duties for most things are 35%. Every single thing I've heard about tariffs has been different

My red-eyed tree frog prints are now up in my store! Printed with blue ink and then coloured with watercolours. This was a fun experiment and a very limited edition (I made 6).

This is a really aggravating policy decision by Etsy. They are pressuring international sellers to pre-pay any tariffs (on the understanding that they can up prices to cover that). This hides tariffs from US shoppers, makes Etsy look like it’s selling more and allows them to collect more fees.

Etsy suspending creating shipping labels for Canada Post packages to the US after the 30th because they don't offer prepaid duties is ruining my day. I was just feeling confident that my stuff was not subject to tariffs. There's so much chaos and confusion about this whole process.

One of the most telling things about yglesias is that he immediately wrote that sweatshops are cool and a net good after a garment factory collapsed and killed hundreds of people in Bangladesh. He does not see other people as full humans.

i really mean this pretty literally: yglesias cannot process the idea of believing in something. he only processes the world transactionally. he thinks pursuing a cause that does not have a clear route to success is being a "dupe" because it does not fit neatly into some grand bargain.

My social media is filled with artists announcing that they are suspending shipments to the US when the de minimis tariff exemptions are removed August 29. This is devastating for a lot of small businesses. Canadian artists should find artworks still exempt from tariffs (in accordance with CUSMA)
