I really didn't hate a lot of what the Mets did. I thought letting Alonso, Diaz, and Nimmo go was mostly necessary. And I thought most of the people they brought in were the kind of players you could squint at and say "Well if you fix this and maybe that, you have something. Dunno what, but..."

Started a new job four-plus weeks ago, and in four-plus weeks I've gotten two hours of training while doing nothing else--barely speaking to a soul--and now I'm wondering how much longer this is gonna go on for before they just let me go.

Screech Near and Far-I have seen a ton of pics of this owl and the beautiful nest and had to make the trip this AM. Here is a tight and wide crop for some variety. I also got to see one of the babies come right to the edge of the nest but never quite poke out. Those pics to come.🪶

While the northern cardinal chicks were fledging last Friday, mom and dad were glued to the roof keeping an eye out the entire time. I thought one of the chicks might've been a day behind the other two, but all three were gone in a matter of a couple hours. #birds

This tiny lizard, measuring just about 3.5 inches long, is a ground skink. They are very easy to overlook due to their size and their preference to stay underneath leaf litter.

Cardinal chick number one just fledged a few moments ago and is hopping about the bush. A second looks close, the third maybe a day behind. #birds

I have a great view of the nest from my window, but the photography is obviously not as nice due to a pane of glass and debris in the way, not to mention poor light. Here, dad northern cardinal arrived and passed a large grub to mom, who is dangling it over a baby's open beak. #birds

A nest full of baby northern cardinals. They grow so fast. In order to get this window into the nest I had to lean an unstable ladder against the house, balance atop it with a long lens and shoot down at a 45-degree angle from about fifteen feet away so as not to disturb it. #birds

I noticed mama cardinal has been less sedentary today, and I just spotted baby cardinals from my window. I'll have to check to see if I can find an angle for a photo with the telephoto lens from a safe distance away.

I found the biggest eastern fence lizard I've ever seen on the trunk of an oak tree in my backyard today. Here she is looking at the camera.

I spent the morning with baby sandhill cranes. A colt, roughly a week old and trapped in shadow save for its sunlit face, walks a dew-covered slope along a trail in the wetlands. Blurred out in the background you can see a grazing adult and a second colt. #birds

Sometimes it's easy to forget why they're called double-crested cormorants because the tufts too often blend into the rest of their head (at least in populations where the tufts aren't white). But then the wind picks up. #birds
