i am *begging* the left to have a better analysis for what causes gentrification and displacement and how we actually prevent it. yes we need more than market mechanisms to keep/create affordability but downzoning doesn’t get you there! it just leads to higher rents and further displacement!!

This use of "feasible" by traffic engineers drives me insane. Renovating your kitchen for $1k is not feasible. Building a bicycle-powered helicopter is not feasible. Deciding that safety is more important than delay is not a matter of feasibility, but a policy choice.

i find any conversation about “college educated” voters interesting because i think there’s an implication there that doesn’t align with reality. a college education used to mean stable, well paying work—but for a long time now, that hasn’t been the case for so many people.
