In less than 4 years, our food waste work went from just a goal in the Climate Action Plan to being a fully operationalized program. Now, thanks to a partnership between the City and SWACO, we have a Class II Composting Facility that gives us end-to-end control of our program from scraps to compost.

SWACO and the City of Columbus are partnering to keep more food waste out of the landfill and put it to better use.  The enclosed composting system will process food scraps, reduce transportation impacts, and create finished compost for local community gardens!
