This really sums it up. For those who haven't watched it, the dialogue on the right isn't paraphrased, those are the lines.

I genuinely feel like there has to be some sort of hardcore cultural difference that makes most western creators just unable to grasp what makes the honest sincerity of japanese creations so appealing. It's like the idea of something being silly but sincere in its themes is just this alien concept.
