Do you recall Trump's transplendent rant about millions of NIH $ going to "transgender" mice? Those $ actually went to "transgenic" mice, the main animal models for disease (outside of xenografts), since 1974 helping cure diseases from cancer to stroke.

For the uninitiated: NSF grants are partly evaluated on their "broader impacts" on society. These often involve education or outreach, sometimes aimed at groups less represented in science. Much of the research being flagged as "woke DEI grants" is just science that did a workshop for Black kids.
