Even if you aren't convinced trans people deserve to use the right bathrooms & participate in gendered sports, you should worry about the effects of trying to root out a few trans people on the much larger set of non-gender-standard cis people. It says something about 2025 that rereading West and Zimmerman’s 1980s classic work on “doing gender” feels radical.

They ban medical care for trans people, saying that it hasn't been studied enough, and then they ban the studies.

For the uninitiated: NSF grants are partly evaluated on their "broader impacts" on society. These often involve education or outreach, sometimes aimed at groups less represented in science. Much of the research being flagged as "woke DEI grants" is just science that did a workshop for Black kids.
